I’m
going to take the boy to the library today to grab some more baby books, I’m
tired of reading the same ones to him all the time. I try to read to him as
often as I can. I really want him to enjoy books and be literate. I think it’s
so important, and there are a ton of statistics showing that boys don’t read
anymore, and the link between literacy becoming “girly” and boys failing out of
school is huge. I’m trying to avoid that at all costs. I actually just ordered
a book called: Swagger: 10 Urgent Rules
for Raising Boys in an Era of Failing Schools, Mass Joblessness and Thug
Culture. I’m hoping to get some good pointers out of that to make my son
enjoy reading and being literate and helping him want to enjoy and stay in
school. Reading in general is just so important. I also feel like, I enjoy reading
SO much that I’d like my son to as well and it can be something we enjoy
together. I fantasize about being able to share book suggestions with one
another when he’s older and talking about books and debating over books that
wield some new idea to us that we don’t see eye to eye upon. Maybe that sounds
lame, but to me, that’s heaven! Ha-ha.
